- - - - - OLD STUFF - - - - - One Ton of Ducks Espresso Americano is located in the Everett Public Library, but it's OK to make noise there! In fact, this is one of the nicest places around to enjoy tasty live music and good treats. The Everett Public Library is located at 2702 Hoyt Avenue in Everett. Admission is free with the purchase of a beverage. One Ton of Ducks The Chili & Chowder Cookoff is quite the event around here. Dozens of local businesses, artists, restaurants, and individuals show up with gallons of their finest concoction, in hopes of snagging the title of the best chili or chowder in all of Camwoodland. Bragging rights are at stake, and you are the judge. The best part, and the reason so may people show up for this event, is that you get to eat a lot of great food. Folks go for the gold, dragging out the old family recipes or their own tried-and-true methods, and the results are generally outstanding. The Center is elbow-to-elbow with folks eager to weigh in on the quality of the entries. For just $10, you get 10 cups of chili and/or chowder (you probably won't need more, but you can buy more if you want), and there are usually plenty of crackers, breads, and other palette-cleansing munchies around, plus a full helping of live original rock and roots music in a room with a no-host beer and wine bar! With everybody cookin' for you (including us) how can you miss ...? This is the official debut performance of One Ton of Ducks, a band of seasoned musicians performing finely-crafted original rock and roots music as well as a few carefully-selected songs written by others. The band includes members of local favorites Steve Harris & Friends (minus Steve this time), plus Roger Ludwick of Big Quack Records recording artists Giza. All the band members are songwriters and top-notch musicians: Mark Dodge sings and plays guitar, keyboards, ukulele, and bass; Roger Ludwick sings and plays acoustic guitar and keyboards; Wende Hilyard sings and plays percussion; Patrick Donicht plays bass, percussion, and keyboards; and Thomas Kemper plays the crap out of the drums. The band plays songs by several Big Quack Records artists, including Giza, Steve Harris, Bob Christensen, and Mark Dodge (whose CD is due out in mid- 2008). Sponsored by the Camano Island Chamber of Commerce www.camanoisland.org The Center is located at 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island, WA. Steve Harris & Friends Come for an early evening of original folk and rock with Steve Harris & Friends, along with special guest Roger Ludwick of the Big Quack Records' band Giza, live at Brindles on Camano Island, Saturday, September 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
